Google Moves Android Development Behind Closed Doors

Google has announced a major shift in Android’s development process by making it fully private. Previously, some parts of Android’s progress were visible through the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), but going forward, all development will happen internally at Google. This means that developers, manufacturers, and the public will no longer have real-time access to in-progress updates.

However, Google insists it is not abandoning open-source principles entirely—finalized versions of Android will still be released to AOSP. While major manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola will continue to have early access to Android updates, independent developers and smaller OEMs will now face more challenges in anticipating system changes.

This move is part of Google’s broader strategy to consolidate control over Android, following years of migrating core features to proprietary, closed-source components like Google Play Services and security updates.
