Zambian AI Startup Caantin Aims to Revolutionize Business Communications

Caantin, a Zambian AI communications startup, is using AI-powered voice agents to help businesses cut the cost of phone calls while improving efficiency. By replacing traditional call centers with AI bots capable of handling conversations at scale, Caantin allows companies to engage customers in multiple African languages, including Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Swahili.

CEO Njavwa Mutambo believes that voice AI is the future of AI adoption in Africa, given the region’s low smartphone penetration and inconsistent internet access. The startup, which charges businesses per second for AI-generated calls, has already helped fintech companies like Cowrywise significantly reduce labor costs while maintaining high customer engagement.

With competition from traditional call centers and global AI firms, Caantin differentiates itself by focusing on African dialects and business needs. It has also secured funding from Ventures Platform and plans to expand its analytics features, allowing businesses to extract insights from customer interactions.
