Togolese Developer Martino Yovo Breaks Language Barriers in Tech

Martino Yovo, a Togolese developer and product engineer at Esri, is on a mission to make tech education more accessible to Francophone Africa. Having struggled with language barriers while learning to code, he founded Togo Developers (TDEV)—a thriving community with 3,000+ members across 14 countries.

Through TDEV, Yovo and his team provide expert-led courses in French and use AI-powered translation tools to convert English-language tech resources. His goal? To level the playing field for Francophone Africans in global tech.

Yovo’s journey, from teaching himself to code with a borrowed phone to becoming a Google Developer Expert and moving to the U.S.—is a testament to resilience. Now, he’s working to ensure that future developers won’t face the same barriers he did.
