Niger State has officially waived Right-of-Way (RoW) fees for fibre optic infrastructure, becoming the 12th Nigerian state to adopt the policy, aiming to expand internet coverage and attract telecom investments. Under the new rule, operators are required to pay a one-time application fee of ₦500,000 ($311.80), which encompasses both new deployments and any future network expansions. Importantly, there are no additional fees associated with expanding existing infrastructure; operators simply need to notify the state of their plans.
Governor Bago hopes the waiver will drive rural connectivity, job creation, and economic growth as Niger seeks to close its broadband gap.
RoW fees have long been a hurdle in Nigeria’s broadband expansion, and Niger now joins a growing list of states like Zamfara, Anambra, Kaduna, and Plateau using waivers to lure telecom players.
