Bolthale AI Is Breaking Language Barriers in Africa with AI Tools

In a continent as linguistically diverse as Africa, access to digital services is often limited to speakers of a few global languages. South African startup Bolthale AI is tackling this issue head-on by building AI-powered natural language processing tools that help businesses communicate with customers in their native languages.

Founder Thapelo Nthite was inspired by personal experience, like helping his grandmother navigate a phone menu she couldn’t understand to develop inclusive tech. Bolthale’s solutions include AI models and customer engagement platforms that are available via API and SaaS, empowering other businesses and developers to build multilingual tools.

Through participation in the Google for Startups Accelerator, the team has gained access to cutting-edge AI tools and continues to upskill through internal initiatives like “Speaky Wednesday.” As generative AI becomes more mainstream, Bolthale is leading the charge in making digital services linguistically accessible across Africa.
