The job cuts, starting today, February 10, 2024, will primarily target the company\u2019s \u201clowest performers\u201d and account for about 5% of its workforce. Unlike previous layoffs, Meta is not shutting down offices or making big public announcements\u2014instead, affected employees will receive \u201cperformance termination\u201d notices between February 11 and 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Interestingly, while cutting jobs, Meta is actively hiring for AI-related roles, particularly machine learning engineers. This aligns with the company\u2019s focus on artificial intelligence as a top priority for 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">In Nigeria, Meta has been downsizing for some time. The company laid off 35 employees in 2023, including its entire Nigerian engineering team, and also scaled back its Lagos office space.
