Paratus Group has officially activated a major fiber route connecting Mombasa in Kenya to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, creating one of the most significant terrestrial internet corridors in Eastern Africa. The new route spans approximately 2,000 kilometers, passing through Nairobi, Kampala, and Kigali, and is designed to provide high-capacity, reliable connectivity for internet service providers, carriers, and enterprise clients operating across multiple countries. This activation marks a key milestone in regional digital infrastructure development and demonstrates Paratus\u2019s commitment to enhancing cross-border connectivity.

The project addresses long-standing challenges in Eastern Africa, where limited fiber infrastructure and high latency have constrained the growth of digital services. By linking inland cities directly to the coastal port of Mombasa and thereby to subsea cables, the route significantly reduces latency, improves network reliability, and provides redundancy in case of outages. Analysts estimate that this fiber link can carry up to 10 terabits per second of data, sufficient to support video streaming, cloud services, mobile financial services, and other bandwidth-intensive applications across the corridor.

The economic implications of the Mombasa-Goma route are substantial. Reliable high-speed connectivity enables businesses to operate more efficiently, reduces operational costs, and creates opportunities for digital commerce and innovation.
