Nigerian defence-tech startup Terra Industries has closed a $52 million seed funding round,<\/a> marking one of the largest seed financings yet for an African defence technology company. The latest $18 million investment completes the round and gives the young company significant capital to expand manufacturing, strengthen its technology and enter international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 2024 by Nigerian entrepreneurs Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra Industries is developing autonomous systems designed to help governments and businesses monitor infrastructure and respond to security threats. Its technology portfolio includes autonomous aerial and ground systems, surveillance infrastructure and software designed to coordinate threat detection and response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s fundraising has accelerated rapidly throughout 2026. Terra initially raised $11.75 million in January before securing another $22 million extension led by Lux Capital in February. The latest $18 million extension brings the company\u2019s total seed financing to approximately $52 million. Existing investors including 8VC, Silent Ventures, Nova Global, Belief Capital and SV Angel participated, while Norleo Space Investments and Grant Gordon joined the latest financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terra plans to use the new capital to increase its manufacturing capacity in Africa and support a wider international expansion. One of its immediate moves is the establishment of a second production facility in Ghana, alongside the opening of its first international office in London. The London location is expected to help the company recruit talent and develop relationships with international investors and customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The startup is also looking beyond Africa. Terra says its broader mission has evolved from protecting African infrastructure to providing defence capabilities for markets across the Global South. The company has identified regions including the Gulf, South America and South Asia as potential expansion markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This strategy reflects a wider shift in global defence technology. Governments are increasingly interested in autonomous systems, surveillance technologies and locally controlled security infrastructure. For many African countries, developing domestic capabilities could also reduce dependence on imported defence equipment and technologies from foreign suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terra is positioning itself around this opportunity by building systems tailored to the operational realities of African markets. The company says it currently has about $100 million in contracts and expects to generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue this year. Its valuation was reported to have reached the low hundreds of millions following the February funding extension, although the company has not disclosed a current valuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest funding also puts Terra in position to prepare for a future Series A round. According to the company, that financing would support high-volume manufacturing and further international expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Africa\u2019s technology ecosystem, Terra\u2019s fundraising represents more than another startup funding milestone. It highlights growing investor interest in defence, autonomous systems and industrial technology on the continent.
