South African fintech startup Zazu has secured a seed investment from pan-African venture capital firm Launch Africa Ventures, giving the company fresh backing as it works to transform financial services for entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment adds Zazu to Launch Africa Ventures\u2019 Seed Fund<\/a> II portfolio and comes as the fintech continues building an integrated digital platform designed specifically for African businesses. The amount of the latest investment was not disclosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 2024 by Rinse Jacobs and Germain Bahri, Zazu aims to address the challenges businesses face when financial services are fragmented across different platforms. Its product combines business banking with tools for invoicing, bookkeeping, cash-flow management and other financial operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is positioning itself as a financial operating system for African SMEs rather than simply another digital bank. Its platform is designed to give business owners a central place to manage their finances, while reducing the administrative burden associated with traditional banking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zazu is currently active in South Africa and Morocco. Rather than pursuing banking licences itself, the company uses a Banking-as-a-Service model, working with regulated financial institutions for banking infrastructure and compliance while focusing on its technology, customer experience and integrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The startup previously raised $1 million in pre-seed funding in December 2025 from Plug and Play Ventures and a group of fintech founders and angel investors. At the time, Zazu said more than 50 SMEs were already in beta and more than 1,000 businesses had joined its waitlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launch Africa\u2019s latest backing reflects growing investor interest in technology designed to serve Africa\u2019s large but underserved SME market. The venture firm said Zazu\u2019s model can enable rapid expansion across multiple markets because it relies on partnerships with regulated institutions rather than building banking infrastructure independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Zazu, the investment is also about gaining strategic support. The company has highlighted Launch Africa\u2019s experience backing African fintech pioneers and its ability to provide guidance and networks as Zazu enters its next phase of growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding comes at a time when African entrepreneurs increasingly need financial products that go beyond basic accounts and payments. By combining banking and business-management tools in one platform, Zazu is betting that SMEs will prefer an integrated financial experience that can grow with their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it expands beyond its current markets, Zazu\u2019s challenge will be to adapt its platform to different regulations, banking systems and business environments across Africa.
