South African-founded artificial intelligence startup Verascient has raised $1.2 million<\/a> in an oversubscribed funding round as it looks to help businesses turn fragmented internal information into useful AI-powered workflows. The funding marks an important step for the Cape Town-based company as it prepares to expand its technology, grow its engineering team and pursue enterprise customers beyond South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The round was led by Founder Collective, with participation from Andrena Ventures, Cambridge Enterprise and Summit Ventures. Angel investors, including Alan Knott-Craig and Shayne Mann, also participated. The company plans to use the capital to strengthen its engineering capabilities and support additional enterprise deployments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded by Keagan Stokoe and Emile Ferreira, Verascient is tackling a common challenge in corporate AI adoption: important organisational knowledge is often scattered across emails, documents, spreadsheets, meetings, software platforms and employees. This fragmentation makes it difficult for AI systems to understand how a company actually operates or act on information safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verascient\u2019s platform is designed to create a shared organisational context from these disconnected sources. At the centre of its technology is a temporal knowledge graph that maps business information while maintaining details about its history, permissions and provenance. The approach is intended to allow AI agents to work with company information while respecting existing access controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The startup is initially targeting sectors such as financial services, insurance and logistics. These industries rely heavily on institutional knowledge and complex workflows, creating opportunities for AI to reduce repetitive work, improve decision-making and help employees find information more efficiently. Verascient says its platform supports more than 1,000 integrations, allowing it to connect with existing business systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than positioning AI as another standalone tool, Verascient is seeking to make it part of how organisations operate. Its technology combines organisational context with workflows and AI agents that can assist teams with everyday tasks. This reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI, where businesses are increasingly looking beyond chatbots toward systems capable of interacting with internal data and executing processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new funding will also support Verascient\u2019s recruitment drive in South Africa. The founders are seeking highly skilled AI engineers and builders as the company develops its product and pursues international growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
