In Zambia, a new $5 million investment from Acumen into Sun King is set to support the expansion of affordable solar energy solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The financing comes as Zambia continues to face significant energy challenges, including electricity shortages and vulnerability to drought-related reductions in hydropower generation. With much of the country\u2019s electricity historically dependent on hydropower, disruptions in generation can have consequences for households, businesses and economic activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sun King, a company focused on off-grid solar products and financing, has built its model around making solar systems accessible through flexible payment structures. Rather than requiring customers to pay the entire cost of a solar home system upfront, customers can spread payments over time, making the technology more accessible to households with limited disposable income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acumen\u2019s $5 million investment is intended to help Sun King expand this model in Zambia, reaching more households with solar-powered products and strengthening access to clean energy.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
