
Nigeria has inaugurated the Digital Innovation and Entreprenuership Park in Abuja as part of its strategic efforts to build a $1 trillion technology-driven economy by 2030. Commisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the park is a major milestone to fostering innovation , entrepreneurship, and digital skills development.
The park, spearheaded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), is designed to serve as a hub for startups, tech entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors. It features world-class infrastructure, including co-working spaces, incubation centers, research laboratories, and training facilities aimed at driving innovation, supporting early-stage businesses, and attracting local and international investment.
President Tinubu, during the commissioning, reiterated the importance of a diversified economy and emphazied that technology and innovation are central to Nigeria’s economic future.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted that the park will be instrumental in nuturing a vibrant startup ecosystem by fostering collaboration among government institutions, private sectors players, academic institutions , and the broader innovation community. He stated that such platform would empower Nigeria youth with the skills and tools required to compete globally and build scalable tech solutions that address both local and international challenges.
The Digital Innovation Park also aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), which prioritizes digital literacy, broadband penetration, inclusive innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. It is expected to play a critical role in unlocking the country’s economic potential by enabling a digital economy that is inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive.
Furthermore, the park is envisioned to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost tech exports, and enhance the country’s GDP by harnessing its young, tech-savvy population. By investing in infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for digital innovation, Nigeria is positioning itself as a leading tecnology hub in Africa.
The commissioning of the Digital Innovation Park marks a bold step toward realizing Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a global digital powerhouse and achieving long-term economic prosperity through technology.
