Egypt has officially launched its 5G services, marking a significant step forward in its national digital transformation agenda. The rollout was announced by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), in collaboration with major telecom operators and technology partners, during the GITEX Africa 2025 event held in Morocco. This development represents a major milestone in Egypt’s efforts to modernize its telecommunications infrastructure and enhance digital connectivity across the country.
The introduction of 5G is expected to drive innovation across multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, manufacturing, and smart cities. The ultra-fast speeds, low latency, and increased network capacity of 5G will support the development of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR). These technologies are vital to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to build a competitive, knowledge-based economy.
The NTRA emphasized that the 5G launch is part of broader national reforms to improve digital infrastructure, attract investment, and increase internet penetration. Egypt has been investing heavily in expanding fiber-optic networks, upgrading mobile towers, and creating regulatory frameworks to support next-generation technologies. The government has also prioritized digital inclusion to ensure that all regions, including underserved and rural areas, benefit from technological advancements.
Leading telecom operators, including Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Egypt, and Telecom Egypt, played a key role in testing and deploying the 5G network. Partnerships with global technology firms provided the technical expertise and infrastructure necessary for implementation.
At the GITEX event, officials highlighted the economic and social benefits of 5G, such as boosting productivity, enabling remote services, and enhancing the overall digital ecosystem. The event also served as a platform to showcase Egypt’s growing role as a digital hub in the Middle East and Africa.
Egypt’s 5G rollout is a transformative leap in its digital journey. It underscores the government’s commitment to modernization, global competitiveness, and inclusive development through technology.
