The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has announced the expansion of its strategic partnership with Digital Realty by launching a new interconnection hub in Accra, Ghana. This initiative represents a major step in improving Africa’s digital infrastructure and supporting the continent’s growing internet and data demands. The move aligns with LINX’s broader mission to enhance interconnectivity and digital access across underserved regions.
LINX is one of the world’s leading internet exchange points (IXPs), and this new hub in Accra marks its commitment to strengthening digital ecosystems beyond Europe. By collaborating with Digital Realty—an international provider of data center, colocation, and interconnection services—LINX aims to improve internet resilience, reduce latency, and promote local content hosting within West Africa. Digital Realty operates iColo and Interxion, which offer data center infrastructure across Africa and Europe, and the Accra facility is part of its global platform, PlatformDIGITAL®.
The new hub in Accra will serve as a vital interconnection point, offering network operators, content providers, and enterprises the ability to directly exchange data traffic locally. This is expected to reduce dependence on expensive international transit routes, enhance internet speed, and provide cost-effective data transfer within the region. The hub will also foster digital innovation by supporting the development of local cloud services, fintech platforms, and digital businesses.
Ghana, as a regional digital leader in West Africa, was selected for its growing ICT ecosystem, stable regulatory environment, and strategic location. LINX believes that positioning an interconnection hub in Accra will not only benefit Ghana but also support broader connectivity goals across West Africa.
