Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has applauded MTN Nigeria and Dell Technologies for their collaboration in establishing Nigeria’s largest Tier 4 data centre, describing it as a significant step in the country’s digital transformation journey. The facility, launched in Lagos, is expected to serve as a critical infrastructure hub for data storage, cloud computing, and digital services, reinforcing Nigeria’s capacity to participate competitively in the global digital economy.
During the commissioning ceremony, Sanwo-Olu commended MTN and Dell for their foresight, innovation, and investment in digital infrastructure, noting that the new data centre aligns with his administration’s broader smart city vision and digital economy strategy. He emphasized that the development supports Lagos’ ambition to become Africa’s technology and innovation powerhouse, positioning the state as a preferred destination for data-driven businesses and digital service providers.
The governor highlighted the potential economic and social impacts of the data centre, which include improved service delivery, enhanced cybersecurity, job creation, and increased efficiency for both public and private sector operations. He also pointed out that this project would support startups and SMEs with scalable infrastructure, providing a solid foundation for growth and innovation in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, underscored the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation through strategic partnerships and investments in critical infrastructure. He noted that the data centre would provide reliable, scalable, and secure data services to a broad range of clients, from government agencies and financial institutions to tech startups and multinational corporations.
Similarly, Dell Technologies representatives praised the collaboration, reiterating their dedication to supporting Africa’s digital future through advanced technologies and trusted solutions. The Tier 4 classification of the centre means it meets the highest global standards for data security, redundancy, and uptime, capable of operating independently without downtime for extended periods.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further called on other stakeholders in the technology and investment space to emulate this kind of partnership, noting that sustainable development in Nigeria requires joint efforts between government and private sector players. He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing the enabling environment for technology to thrive, including policies that attract investment and foster innovation.
