This surge in attacks is raising serious concerns about the resilience of digital infrastructure in one of Africa’s most connected markets.
Ransomware—malicious software that locks access to data until a ransom is paid—has increasingly become a weapon of choice for cybercriminals targeting large organizations. In the telecom industry, where data handling, internet traffic, and communication services are central, such attacks pose a significant threat to national security and business continuity.
The alarming statistics were revealed in a recent industry-wide survey and corroborated by cybersecurity firms operating in the region.
