MTN MoMo and UHOA Unite to Digitize Hospitality Payments in Imo State

MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), a leading fintech subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, has partnered with the United Hospitality Association of Owerri (UHOA) to enhance digital payment adoption within the hospitality sector in Imo State. This collaboration is aimed at promoting financial inclusion and driving the cashless economy agenda of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The strategic partnership involves onboarding over 250 UHOA-member hotels and hospitality establishments onto the MoMo platform, enabling them to accept digital payments seamlessly from customers. Through this initiative, MTN MoMo is providing business owners in the hospitality sector with access to convenient, secure, and efficient financial services. These include payment collections, disbursements, and digital wallets, allowing businesses to manage their funds more effectively.

The partnership was formally announced during a recent event held in Owerri, attended by executives from both MTN MoMo and UHOA. Representatives from MTN MoMo emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through digital financial solutions. They noted that digital payment platforms like MoMo can help businesses reduce reliance on cash, improve financial record-keeping, and enhance customer experience.

UHOA executives also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the benefits of embracing financial technology in an industry that traditionally relies heavily on cash. They praised MTN MoMo for offering tools that would help their members operate more efficiently and transparently, especially in areas such as revenue tracking and fraud reduction.

This partnership aligns with MTN MoMo’s broader mission to support financial inclusion and economic growth in underserved sectors. By digitizing transactions in the hospitality industry, both organizations hope to foster a more resilient and tech-savvy business environment in southeastern Nigeria.

The MTN MoMo–UHOA initiative exemplifies how public-private partnerships can leverage technology to address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s economic landscape, particularly in sectors primed for digital transformation.
