Eswatini is accelerating its digital transformation with a bold push for technology reforms aimed at fostering innovation, boosting connectivity, and building a tech-savvy workforce. The government recently passed the Electronic Communications and Transactions Bill, which sets a legal framework for e-commerce, cybersecurity, data protection, and digital transactions. This legislation is expected to enhance trust in digital services and attract both local and international investment in the country’s growing tech ecosystem.
Simultaneously, Eswatini is rolling out 5G infrastructure to enhance internet speed, connectivity, and digital inclusion. The 5G launch positions the country among the few African nations advancing in next-generation mobile networks. This leap is expected to unlock opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and smart cities, while also facilitating digital business growth.
In a major effort to build human capital, the government has also initiated a nationwide coding training program, targeting students and young professionals across the country. This program aims to democratize access to digital skills and ensure that Eswatini’s youth are prepared for the demands of the global digital economy. By embedding coding into education and workforce development, the initiative seeks to create a pipeline of local tech talent that can support and sustain the nation’s digital infrastructure.
Through this three-pronged approach—progressive legislation, advanced connectivity, and tech education—Eswatini is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive, digitally empowered future. These reforms reflect the country’s ambition to become a regional leader in technology and innovation.
