The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) has announced plans to establish a technological hub in Nigeria as part of its mission to strengthen South–South cooperation, promote knowledge exchange, and foster digital transformation among developing nations. The initiative, unveiled during discussions with Nigerian government officials and stakeholders, aims to position Nigeria as a central player in driving innovation across Africa and other member states of the Global South.
The technological hub is expected to serve as a platform for research, capacity-building, and the development of homegrown solutions to shared challenges such as digital inclusion, access to education, and socio-economic development. By leveraging Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem and youthful population, the OSC intends to create opportunities that will bridge digital divides, enhance skills transfer, and stimulate entrepreneurial ventures in information and communication technologies.
A key aspect of the project is its focus on fostering collaboration between countries of the Global South, moving away from dependency on the North for technological expertise.
