African Journalists Chosen to Champion Digital Transformation Through DPI Journalism Fellowship.

TechCabal’s journalist, Frank Eleanya, has been named among 15 distinguished African journalists selected for the inaugural Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Journalism Fellowship. The fellowship, designed to deepen reporting on the intersection of technology, governance, and public service delivery, highlights the growing importance of journalism in shaping conversations around Africa’s digital transformation.

Organized by the Co-Develop Fund in collaboration with global media and digital policy partners, the DPI Journalism Fellowship aims to build a network of journalists who can effectively cover issues around digital identity, data governance, and open digital systems. These areas form the foundation of DPI — the backbone of digital economies that enable services such as payments, identity verification, and information exchange across sectors.

Frank Eleanya’s selection is a testament to his consistent contributions to Africa’s tech ecosystem through insightful reporting on innovation, policy, and digital inclusion. As a senior journalist at TechCabal, he has covered key developments shaping the continent’s digital economy, including fintech evolution, startup funding trends, and technology regulation.

Over the course of the fellowship, participants will engage in intensive training sessions, mentorship programs, and collaborative projects aimed at improving the quality and depth of reporting on digital infrastructure. They will also explore how DPI can drive inclusive economic growth, transparency, and access to essential services in emerging markets.

The selection of 15 journalists from across Africa underscores the continent’s growing focus on responsible tech development and the critical role of the media in fostering digital literacy and accountability. Through this fellowship, participants are expected to produce impactful stories that illuminate how public digital systems can shape the future of governance and development.

For TechCabal and the broader African tech journalism community, Eleanya’s recognition reflects an ongoing commitment to advancing high-quality, insightful coverage of the technologies driving the continent’s digital future.
