
Hashgraph Ventures has pledged $1 million to the Hedera Africa Hackathon, reinforcing its commitment to advancing Web3 and AI innovation across the continent. Exceptional projects emerging from the hackathon will be assessed individually for potential equity investment, providing developers a clear pathway from concept to funding.
The initiative has attracted participation from United Gulf Financial Services (UGFS), bringing total reported equity investment commitments to $2 million. In addition, The Hashgraph Association and Exponential Science Foundation contributed a $1 million prize pool, which was distributed across top-performing teams to recognize both creativity and technical excellence.
The 2025 Hedera Africa Hackathon ran from August 1 to October 31, engaging builders across 20 African cities, including Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, Cape Town, and Kigali. The program attracted over 13,000 registered developers, who submitted 1,300 projects spanning DeFi, NFTs, AI-powered applications, supply chain solutions, and other decentralized technologies.
Organizers emphasized that the hackathon is more than a competition. Each project undergoes thorough evaluation for scalability, market potential, and technological innovation, with mentorship and networking opportunities integrated throughout. Notably, several projects are already under discussion for direct investment, signaling growing confidence in African tech startups.
With $4 million combined in equity and prize support and participation spanning tens of thousands of developers, the Hedera Africa Hackathon marks a milestone in the continent’s tech ecosystem. It reflects a vibrant, fast-growing community of innovators ready to leverage blockchain and AI to solve local and global challenges.
