MTN Group, alongside global technology investors, has led a $45 million Series A funding round for the Oran Development Corporation (ODC), a company focused on deploying AI‑native network infrastructure across Africa and beyond.
ODC plans to use the funding to build networks designed from the ground up for AI-driven applications — from smart cities to enterprise automation. Unlike traditional networks, AI-native systems can dynamically optimize bandwidth, reduce latency, and support the massive data demands of modern AI workloads.
The move is part of a larger trend where African telecoms and global investors are betting on the continent as a hub for next-generation digital infrastructure. MTN’s support signals confidence in both ODC’s technology and Africa’s growing AI ecosystem, showing that the continent can be a player in cutting-edge network tech, not just a consumer.
For the African tech community, this investment is a game-changer. It opens doors for startups, developers, and enterprises to build AI-driven products locally without relying on overseas infrastructure, which has been a major barrier to adoption. It also encourages talent development in AI networking, systems engineering, and data operations across the continent.
The way forward will involve scaling deployments, partnering with local governments and enterprises, and creating frameworks for AI infrastructure adoption. With backing from MTN and global leaders, ODC’s work could redefine how Africa approaches data networks — putting the continent on the map for AI-ready digital infrastructure.
