Morocco Signs $1.2B Deal with UK-Based Nexus to Build AI Infrastructure Hub.

Morocco has signed a major agreement with UK-based Nexus Core Systems to develop a large-scale AI infrastructure project known as the Nexus AI Factory, marking one of the country’s most ambitious moves into sovereign artificial intelligence capacity building.

The project, valued at approximately $1.2–$1.28 billion, was announced during recent digital economy engagements and forms part of Morocco’s broader Digital 2030 strategy. It is designed to establish high-performance computing infrastructure that will support AI development, research, and deployment within the country.

At the core of the initiative is a planned AI data centre (high-performance computing facility) alongside an innovation hub and a research and training centre. The infrastructure is expected to provide large-scale computing capacity, enabling both government and private sector use of advanced AI systems locally.

The partnership positions Nexus Core Systems as a key technical partner responsible for delivering the infrastructure layer, while Morocco provides the regulatory and strategic framework to anchor the project within its national digital transformation agenda. The facility is also expected to be developed in phases, with long-term expansion planned.

Conclusion

The Nexus AI Factory signals Morocco’s push to become a regional AI infrastructure hub, not just a consumer of artificial intelligence technologies. By investing in local compute power and data infrastructure, the country is aiming to position itself within the global AI value chain as a provider of infrastructure rather than only a user of digital services.
