Kenya’s mobility startup BuuPass is expanding its footprint beyond consumer ticketing with the launch of a new corporate travel booking platform, signaling a strategic shift toward enterprise solutions. The product, known as Gavanpass, is designed to digitize and streamline business travel management across African companies, a segment that has remained largely underserved and manual.
BuuPass has built its reputation by simplifying how individuals book bus, rail, and flight tickets across East Africa. Over the years, the company has sold more than 30 million tickets and processed over $100 million in transactions annually, operating in markets such as Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa. With this strong consumer base, the company is now leveraging its infrastructure and experience to tackle the more complex needs of corporate travel.
The new platform targets finance, procurement, and operations teams responsible for coordinating employee travel and managing budgets. Gavanpass integrates multiple services—including flights, hotels, buses, ground transport, and group travel—into a single system. It also introduces features such as approval workflows, policy controls, and real-time expense tracking, giving companies greater visibility and control over travel spending. BuuPass’s move comes at a time when corporate travel in many African markets remains fragmented and inefficient. Bookings are often handled through phone calls or messaging apps, approvals are scattered across email threads, and financial reconciliation can take weeks—especially for companies operating across multiple currencies. By digitizing these processes, Gavanpass aims to reduce inefficiencies and improve accountability within organizations.
Early adoption suggests growing demand for such solutions. More than 20 enterprises in Kenya, including banks, fintechs, insurers, and manufacturers, are already using the platform to manage their travel operations. This traction highlights a broader opportunity in Africa’s enterprise software market, where localized solutions are increasingly preferred over global tools that may not fully address regional complexities.
BuuPass’s entry into corporate travel reflects a wider trend among African startups seeking more predictable revenue streams through enterprise offerings. By addressing the unique challenges of business travel on the continent, the company is positioning itself not just as a ticketing platform, but as a comprehensive travel management solution for Africa’s growing corporate sector.
