Condia Pushes Africa Toward Borderless Payments

Africa’s increasingly connected economy is creating a growing demand for payment systems that can move money across borders quickly, securely and affordably. Yet businesses and consumers still face significant barriers when sending or receiving money between African countries. Different currencies, fragmented payment networks, foreign-exchange restrictions and regulatory requirements continue to make cross-border transactions complicated.

Against this backdrop, Condia is launching The Borderless Experience, an industry-focused event designed to bring together key stakeholders to discuss the future of cross-border payments and commerce in Africa.

The event is scheduled for August 21, 2026, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos. It is expected to bring together founders, fintech executives, banking leaders, regulators, investors and other stakeholders working across Africa’s financial ecosystem.

The central idea behind the initiative is that Africa cannot achieve deeper economic integration without better financial infrastructure. Businesses may increasingly sell products and services to customers in other African countries, but moving the resulting money across borders can remain slow, expensive and unpredictable.

For small businesses and startups, these challenges can become a major barrier to expansion. A company that wants to operate across several African markets may need to manage multiple currencies, banking relationships, payment providers and regulatory systems. Reducing these complications could make regional expansion significantly easier.

The Borderless Experience aims to create a platform for discussing practical solutions. Its agenda includes payment infrastructure, settlement, liquidity, foreign exchange, remittances and stablecoins. The event will also examine how banks, fintech companies and regulators can collaborate to improve the movement of money across African markets.

This conversation comes as digital payments continue to reshape African commerce. Fintech companies have introduced new ways for consumers and businesses to make payments, while developments in instant payments and digital currencies are creating new possibilities for regional transactions.

However, technology alone cannot eliminate the challenges. Fraud, cybersecurity, consumer protection, regulatory differences and foreign-exchange volatility remain important concerns. Building reliable cross-border payment systems therefore requires cooperation between technology companies, financial institutions and governments.

The event also comes at a time when the African Continental Free Trade Area is encouraging greater trade between African countries. As businesses increasingly look beyond their domestic markets, efficient payment infrastructure will become even more important.

For consumers, better cross-border payments could make it easier to send money to family members, pay for services abroad, shop from businesses in other countries and participate in Africa’s growing digital economy.

For businesses, the benefits could be even greater. Faster settlement and easier currency conversion could reduce transaction costs, improve cash flow and allow companies to serve customers across borders without building complicated financial infrastructure themselves.

Ultimately, The Borderless Experience reflects a broader shift in Africa’s fintech industry. The next stage of digital payments will not simply be about creating more payment apps. It will be about connecting the systems behind them.

By bringing the people building, regulating and using those systems together, Condia hopes to encourage conversations and partnerships that can help create a more connected African financial ecosystem.

A truly borderless African economy will require more than free movement of goods and people. It will also require money to move across borders with fewer barriers.
