Ecobank Expands Dangote Share Access Across Africa

Ecobank is widening access to one of Africa’s biggest capital-market opportunities by enabling retail and institutional investors across the continent to participate in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery share offer.

The offer, which opened on September 14, 2026, is scheduled to close on October 13. The shares are priced at ₦525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, giving investors an entry point of ₦5,250 before any applicable charges.

The initiative places Ecobank’s pan-African network at the centre of the share sale. The bank operates across 33 African countries and has international offices in London, Paris, Beijing and Dubai. Through its banking infrastructure, Ecobank is seeking to connect investors in different African markets with an opportunity to take part in the ownership of one of the continent’s most significant industrial projects.

For Nigerian investors, access is available through the Ecobank Mobile App, Internet Banking, the bank’s website and branches nationwide. Both Ecobank customers and non-customers can subscribe, broadening access beyond the bank’s existing customer base.

The development comes as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s public offering generates substantial interest among Nigerian investors. Reuters reported that the IPO has produced significant demand, with several digital investment platforms experiencing disruptions as traffic surged. The offering has been marketed toward broad public participation, including first-time investors.

Ecobank’s involvement could give the offering another distribution channel at a time when digital access is becoming increasingly important to African capital markets. Rather than relying solely on traditional brokerage infrastructure, investors can use banking platforms they already interact with to access the offer.

The bank has positioned the initiative as part of its broader effort to support wealth creation and increase participation in African capital markets. Austen Osokpor, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Ecobank Nigeria, said the bank’s digital platforms and branch network were designed to provide investors with convenient access to the opportunity.

The transaction also illustrates the potential role of pan-African financial institutions in moving capital across national borders. Ecobank’s existing investment-banking business includes securities, wealth management and investor services, with direct access to major West African exchanges.

For Dangote Petroleum Refinery, wider investor participation could help connect the project with African retail and institutional capital. The refinery has become a major component of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and is the subject of what Reuters described as Africa’s largest-ever share sale, targeting $1.6 billion.

Still, participation remains an investment decision rather than simply a banking transaction. Ecobank has advised prospective investors to review the offer prospectus carefully and seek professional advice where appropriate. The availability of shares through a convenient digital or branch channel does not eliminate the risks associated with investing in equities.

With the offer running until October 13, Ecobank’s distribution network gives investors across Africa another route into a landmark Nigerian capital-market transaction, while highlighting the growing connection between banking technology, regional capital and retail investment.
